Reading Workshop with Wisdom Club- Year 11 (2013-14)

Wisdom Club is a group which focuses on the education of children in an open environment through the adventures of reading. We in Mutiara International Grammar School are very lucky to be able to invite a few of their members on the 18th of September.
They started off with introducing us to a touching story of a bear through a video. As the story continued, I got more and more into it and without realising, I was touched by the story and filled with questions and wander. What happened to the bear? What happened to his master? Questions came flooding in. I would have never expected this from a story being told to little kids. From this, I began to realise the effect this club tries to convey towards the younger children. The books they read to them all have simple yet important, meaningful lessons of which we teenagers often neglect.
The juniors were then invited and the activities kicked off with a fictional story of a wolf. The juniors listened full of content and admired the colorful pictures of the story. By the end, the juniors were at first quiet and shy but slowly one after another, questions were piling up. We seniors then provided an activity to communicate with the juniors about the story. We listened to their ideas and their thoughts while sharing our own views of the story and giving them feedback. They were filled with a range of ideas, some of which I had not even thought of. This truly shows that the imagination of a child is limitless.
Considering all that happened, we would like to express our greatest gratitude towards the Wisdom Club for coming to visit us. We had learnt valuable lessons and ways to interact with kids I had never even spoken to. We hope to help connect with more children to not only the juniors of our schools but to a wider range of kids with more lovely stories to be told.
