On being selected leaders (Dafa, Trisha and me) for this
project, we were overwhelmed at the job entrusted to us by our fellow classmates.
The three of us had to plan and organise our first big project as thoroughly as
we could as none of us wanted to mess it up. We decided to split our classmates
into 4 groups: each group would have a leader and be given different tasks to
accomplish. This proved to be difficult, due to the usual problem of friends
wanting to be together or of people being too lazy to do anything.
Immediately after managing to form four
groups, we brainstormed for ideas on how this Appreciation Day would be
different than any other. After debating on the theme we settled for “Dream Day”.
We started work right away planning the programme, doing fundraising, crafting
an art piece and organising the menu for the day.

Initially, the food group needed a
budget of around RM300. Our first reaction to this was shock and anxiety. We
all thought this was a hefty sum and that we wouldn’t be able to provide it. The
week was to be a grueling, hectic and formidable one. To our surprise we made
a staggering sum of RM 1,000+ which flabbergasted everyone, including
ourselves.

The presentation
group had the job of arranging the programme and making sure that every single
group delivered in time. The duties included:
- Filming and editing a video that showed the students and teachers appreciating the support staff
- Drafting the seating and dining arrangements for the day
- Planning and carrying out activities and games
to be played
- Writing scripts for the MCs and speakers
- Making sure that the event runs smoothly.
This whole experience gave us an
understanding and appreciation of the school community and the work they do
each day to keep Mutiara running. Furthermore we realised that organising a
school-wide activity is not easy but with great perseverance, teamwork and
cooperation anything is possible. This has been truly an unforgettable experience
for everyone.
