Mutiarans for Nepal… A Community Art Year 10 initiative

Upon hearing about the catastrophic earthquake in Nepal, we, the Co-Arts Year 10s knew that we had to take immediate action. My fellow classmate, Lujain and I led the project.

Since we needed something simple and effective, our class came up with a charity drive. We went to junior school and educated them on what happened during the earthquake, how destructive it was, and how important it was to give help. As for senior school, during PHSE, a PowerPoint presentation was shown to create awareness on the earthquake and our project.

The Mandarin Class helped us too. They held a Mufti Day and a food sale. They gave all of their profits to this cause. Over a course of a few weeks; we collected a good amount of money. Our teachers helped arrange a cheque and an appointment with the Nepal Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

On Friday the 12th of June, we went to the embassy. Raisha, Loucas and I represented the school. We arrived at the embassy to pass the cheque. They told us that they appreciated our efforts to help the victims.

Overall, it was unforgettable experience. It is a great feeling knowing that we managed to help Nepal to recover with our contributions although it is only a drop in the ocean. We hope and pray that Nepal will recover soon.
