In view of the current status at Sabah Lahad Datu, the
Community Arts group has deliberated on what we could do for the children
there. Our main focus is on the children because we discovered from our
teachers , that there were some schools in the ‘Red Zone’ an area where they
were in grave danger of being attacked, had been closed down and children were
unable to attend school.
Our first task was to find out what everyone could do
for the children. We had some brilliant ideas from the entire school out of
which we have considered donating books, making them cards, sending them
educational CDs and sending them a care package. We put all these ideas
together and got to work.
Lot of books, both in Malay and English as well as
educational CDs on a variety of subjects were donated. We then collected cards
from all around the school that encouraged the children in Lahad Datu to stay
strong. All these put together, made a very simple however, very loving
and hopefully helpful ‘Care Package.’
We were very pleased to be able to do this for the
children in Lahad Datu. The Community Art Projects has opened our eyes to the
reality of the world. Our school believes that we have just scratched
the surface of community arts and we hope to engage on a much wider scale to
help those in need.
