Home Of Angels- Year 11 (2015)

On the 19th of March, 7 of us from Year 11 were chosen to go to a Chinese orphanage called ‘Home for the Angels' to read to them and encourage them to read as well. Our group presented the story of ‘The Box Boy’ who explores his dreams. The Box Boy is a character from the book titled “What is your Dream?’ written by C. K. Koh.

We set off with our hearts filled with excitement as we really wanted to bond with the children.
However, due to the intense traffic jam to the place, we arrived there half an hour later than expected.

Even though we were late the Principal, Ms Lee, greeted us with open arms. Initially, there were problems communicating with the children who were aged 5 to 16 years old, as they only converse in Mandarin. But after a while, we managed to break the language barrier and get our message across by speaking slowly. Overall, our reading and interaction went off well. Even with the time constraints, we still managed to take photos together to capture our amazing moments. We went back with heavy hearts as we were not able to spend more time interacting with the children, but we gained such a great experience seeing them so happy and cheerful.
